Relax II
[8:48]
Meditation piece. Peaceful, calm to center your being and still your mind. Nice for traveling deep within. I have a saying that I came up with when I have had such 'deep' travels within. "Ya never know how far you went until ya try and come back". Have a pleasant journey, don't forget to come back.

Lovely piece written on the Stick exploring the melody and bass intermingling sides to create a classical like style of simplicity and memorability.

Learned My Lessons Well
[3:22]
There are two versions of this tune, this is from the "Jackie Chin" show Episode 'Jackie at the Drive-In'. The other you will find off the "Timeless" album however there it is entitled "Unspoken Words". For me tunes grow as they get older and I refine them. Both I feel are complete versions just a different view. Enjoy/Don

Smooth
[4:40]
Smooth Jazz piece featuring the Grand Stick on melody and NS/Stickbassguitar. This tune is off "The Schiff Brothers" CD. I loved the the sound I got on the melody side of the Grand Stick by plucking. Something unique to my instrument when plucked in that range, there is a nice ambient twang to the tone. Not fretless or Sitar totally just a nice tone all to itself that I delighted in making this the melody feature sound.
This tune features Neil Bettencourt on drums and John Papenbrook on Flugel and Trumpet. Great players that made this arrangement world class.

For My Mother
[3:48]
Originally composed for a holiday CD this piece is a lovely solemn Mood instrumental. Picture contemplation over the majesty of a life well lived and full. And at the end, a great unexpected transition. I played piano, cellos and NS/Stick on this piece. (Thank goodness slowly thats a lot of ground to cover)

TV Theme 1
[1:30]
Composed for TV themes, it was a delelight going into different studios to capture the horn parts and drums. Originally composed for the Regis and Kelly talk show submission, then I did use it for the Jackie Chin show. The solo and theme parts are NS/Stickbassguitar. Horns by John Papenbrook, drums Neil Bettencourt mixed by Frank Rosato at Woodcliff Studio.

Tv Theme II
[1:58]
Rockin' theme composed by Lance Matthew and myself. Originally written for the George Lopez show. Good to go right up to the last week before airing, then the producers bumped it and opted for "Low Rider" by War. I'm so proud of this piece, great players, John Papenbrook on trumpets, George Shelby saxes, Lance Matthew guitar and Hammond organ, me on NS/Stickbassguitar I'm sorry for the moment don't remember the drummer, (I'll get it later). Mixed/recorded at 'woodcliff studio' by Frank Rosato. Fine piece of music if I say so myself.

Stick Schiff Schuffle
[1:43]
Featured tune from the Jackie Chin Show Episode "Mom's Today" (http://www.youtube.com/donschiff ) where 'Jackie" surprises Don in the studio and talks his way into singing a duet. The song features brother Dave Schiff on tenor sax, me on NS/Stickbassguitar and of course Jackie Chin himself singing along in his own inimitable style.

Progress (a work in)
[3:39]
"Progress" is just that - a work in progress. Good start, fun NS/Stick bass line, in fact all the bass and guitar parts are NS/Stick. The bridge is the "Grand Stick" slightly different tone and fun. Next I'll put solos and melody in, sweetin' the arrangement a bit. This was/is a tune I'm waitin' for a horn player to lay his parts and ideas down. Meanwhile... I'll finish it this way and have a couple nice versions. So far the ending currently needs freeway cones around it and a sign saying "construction ahead", it is an abrupt ending. Have a nice beverage, sit back and enjoy!

All@Once
[1:04]
Fun practice piece on doing everything at the same time. The percussion was a midi trigger note from the chords, each note triggering a different rhythm percussion instrumetn. The keyboards midi triggered from both left and right hands. The instrument is the NS/Stick w/midi.
I called the piece "All@Once" because it was done all at once. That's the sSTORY! have a listen.

Beautiful Life
[4:05]
Written for a benefit project with the band 2KX. Features my brother Dave on Sax and flute and me going crazy with the NS/Stickbassguitar playing solo Slide style guitar and down low rockin' bass parts (if I do say so myself). Really shows the versatility of the NS instrument.

Solo Peace 3/2012
[2:38]
There is a video of this piece and I thought having an audio only would be nice as well. Originally called "PSST" for the technique I use on the NS/Stickbassguitar to play the tune. It involved "Plucking, Slapping, Strumming and Tapping!" clever huh! Any way when I was uploading the video I forgot I named it already and ended calling it "Solo Piece" then thought I'd be extra clever with "Solo Peace 3/2012". A fun tune to play.
